Visitors and Workshops

Alex Ballinger MP Visit

Our pupils enjoyed a visit from MP Alex Ballinger, who launched our School Council candidate campaign week with an inspiring assembly. He shared how he became involved in politics and encouraged children to recognise that everyone has the power to make a positive difference. During his visit, he also spent time in each class, talking to pupils about their learning and achievements.

West Midlands Police 'Safe on the Street' Workshop

Our Year 6 pupils took part in an engaging virtual reality workshop led by West Midlands Police. Through a range of realistic scenarios, the children learned how to stay safe while out in the community, including what to do if approached by strangers, if they witness an incident, or actions to take in an emergency. The session helped develop their confidence, awareness, and understanding of personal safety.

Britain's Tallest Man Visits Old Hill!

Our pupils were inspired by a visit from Britain's tallest man and former Harlem Globetrotters player, Paul Sturgess. Through engaging workshops and basketball sessions, he encouraged children to celebrate differences, show kindness to others, and develop confidence both on and off the court.

Road Safety Day

The Sandwell Road Safety Team visited school to deliver a whole-school assembly focused on staying safe near roads. Pupils learned about the importance of crossing at designated safe places, following the Green Cross Code, and making themselves visible to drivers, particularly during darker mornings and evenings. Following the assembly, the team worked directly with Year 1 pupils and children in the HUB, providing practical, age-appropriate activities to reinforce key road safety messages and develop their confidence in making safe choices when travelling near roads.

Fire Safety Workshop

Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils took part in a fire safety workshop led by Sally, a Fire Officer from Sandwell. They learned about fire safety, the consequences of starting fires, and what to do in an emergency. As part of the session, pupils also created fire escape plans for their homes to help keep their families safe.

Bikeability

Through the Bikeability programme, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils gain valuable cycling skills that help them become safe and confident riders. They learn how to maintain their bikes, carry out essential safety checks, and navigate roads responsibly and safely.
